Jonathan Schnier DVM, Diplomate ACVIM                

Dr. Schnier is originally from Toronto, Ontario. Dr. Schnier received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph, Ontario, in 2004. He then completed a rotating small animal internship at Southern Arizona Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center in Tucson, Arizona. Dr. Schnier has recently completed a small animal internal medicine residency at the Atlantic Veterinary College in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.  He passed the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) Small Animal Internal Medicine Specialty examination in June 2008.

Dr. Schnier is currently working on completing an MSc degree with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Prince Edward Island. His research is focused on cardiovascular changes associated with excess weight and weight loss in dogs. Dr. Schnier is happy to be a part of the CCVS team. His interests include SCUBA diving, skydiving, kayaking, and alpine skiing.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

2005-2008:  Atlantic Veterinary College,  Small Animal Medicine Residency

  • Attended to referral and non-referral internal medicine, neurology, dermatology, oncology, cardiology, ophthalmology,   and emergency appointments/cases

  • Supervised the internal medicine service and medicine cases handled by interns and residents

  • Completed post-graduate studies in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine

  • Studied cardiovascular changes associated with excess weight and weight-loss in dogs

2004-2005:  Southern Arizona Veterinary Specialty and Emergency, Small Animal Internship

  • Worked with specialists and gained experience in the fields of internal medicine, oncology, diagnostic imaging, emergency medicine, ophthalmology, dermatology, dentistry, and surgery
  • Experience/exposure to diagnostic imaging, therapeutic, and surgical equipment including ultrasonograhy, video endoscopy, computed tomography (CT), radioactive iodine treatment (I-131), chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and operating microscope
