PLANNING FOR YOUR PET'S SURGICAL PROCEDURE: Our objective is to provide your pet the safest, minimally painful, most current surgical procedure. CCVS surgeons are board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS). The ACVS is the American Veterinary Medical specialty board which sets the standards for advance professionalism in veterinary surgery. The term "ACVS Diplomate" refers to a veterinarian who has been board certified in veterinary surgery. Veterinarians wishing to become board certified, must complete a three-year residency program, meet specific training and caseload requirements, perform research and have their research published. This process is supervised by current ACVS Diplomates, ensuring consistency in training and adherence to high standards. Once the residency has been completed, the resident must sit for and pass a rigorous examination. Only then does the veterinarian earn the title of ACVS Diplomate. Find out more about the ACVS on the web at, www.acvs.org. You will leave the CCVS website once you click on the acvs.org link. After examining your pet, the board certified surgeon will prepare an estimate to review and discuss with you his surgical recommendations. Once it is mutually decided by the surgeon and yourself to proceed with surgery, the procedure will be scheduled. Drop off for surgical procedures is between 8 am and 8:30 am. Your pet should not be fed after 12 midnight the night before the scheduled surgical procedure. Small amount of water is ok, up to 1-hour prior to dropping off. Your surgeon will determine the length of time your pet needs to be hospitalized. This is dependant on the procedure and will be discussed when the estimate is provided. Your pet will be continually monitored during recovery by our nursing team. Your pet will have 24/7 care provided by our team of veterinarians and nurses. Specific instructions from your surgeon and routine treatments ensure proper care of your pet. Pain medications and antibiotics are administered at precise intervals. Vital signs (heart rate, respiratory rate, respiratory rate, and temperature), appetite, are maintained. Bedding at all and eliminations are observed and documented. IC catheters and IV fluid therapy are maintained. Wounds, incisions, splints and bandages are monitored, as well. You are encouraged to bring your pet's prescription medications and prescription diets. We provide Hill's Science Diet during hospitalization. However, if your pet is fed a specific diet please bring it in. All patients are provided with bedding. Toys, beds, and special belongings from home may become soiled and damaged. You can bring items with your pet, however we cannot guarantee these items will be returned. We realize how important your pet is to you and how difficult it is when they are not at home with you. To ensure the highest level of patient care and comfort, visiting hours are limited to the hours of 12 noon to 8 pm. We request that you call in advance to let us know you are coming. Visits are limited to twice daily for no longer than 15 minutes each time. These limits are in place to prevent delays in the medical care requirements of your pet. We do not permit visitation if your pet is in isolation, due to necessary precautions to prevent the spread of contagious conditions.
